NE corner w/ N 1st St., on W. Hist. Rt. 66
Easily mistaken for a merely exuberant retro-style imitation of roadside eateries of Historic Route 66’s fabled past, Mr. D’z is actually the real thing, having started off as one of those once-ubiquitous mid-century gas station / cafes. Much of the styling and décor has indeed been added over the years, in what some might consider a garish display of retro nostalgia, but at the heart of it is the same roadside eatery that was there more than half a century ago, still serving great American diner food. Especially famous for their homemade root beer and pizza, they have also been visited by Oprah Winfrey and Angus T. Jones.
