If the sign and exterior looks familiar, it’s because it represented Mel’s Diner in the TV show Alice, though the show was not shot in this diner of unknown make. (It also appears in American Graffiti.) It originally opened as Lester’s, and was later known as Glenn’s and later Chris’s, whose owners were persuaded by the TV show’s producer to change it to “Mel’s”.
