Notes:
Former Phil’s, Sweetie Pie’s. Said to have been originally near the corner of Ventura and Lankership Boulevards in Studio City. (Unverified, but would have been to the east, as it was said to have been displaced by freeway construction.) It later stood at 11138 Chandler Boulevard (just east of Lankershim) until displaced by development. Likely built by Charles Amend, who was from the East Coast and likely worked for P.J. Tierney & Sons. The diner was originally part of J.F.(Phil) Phillip’s diner chain.
Appeared in the X-Files episode “Humbug” (2x20). Also appeared in episodes of Baretta, The Millnnaire Matchmaker, Hart to Hart, White Shadow,, and more, plus a number of films (such as Night of the Creeps, 1986, and one of the Friday the 13th films). Phil Everly (of the Everly Brothers) featured the diner in the name and cover art of his 1974 solo album Phil’s Diner.
