QHQH+PM Polk Gulch, San Francisco, CA
Longtime Polk-Gulch institution, just over a century old now, and a favourite of Castro regulars. Started as a light-rail car serving the Key Line between Berkeley and Oakland. Converted to a diner originally called The Orient Express. Purchased in 1967 by owners of the original Grubstake (at 142 Mason St.) and named Grubstake II, then expanded with added kitchen and dining room.
