Louis R. Montemurro opened this diner here in 7 August 1928, and ran it till about 1938, when it passed to J.P. Pepi, who about 1942 sold it Aurele and William Grenier, who used to cook for Montemurro. [Gary Thomas; Southington Public Library; Liz Campbell Kopec, in Southington: The War Years (Arcadia] There was an older barrel-roof Tierney or O’Mahoney before the one that appears in War-era photos. [Gary Thomas, Larry Cultrera] Initially closed 1964 [Knowl, see above] but was operating as late as March 1967. [per classified ad found by Peter Bleiberg in The Meriden Record-Journal of 22 March 1967] The diner and adjacent structure were demolished in 1968 to make way for the present structure at the SW corner with High St. [Meriden Record-Journal, 13 June 1968, thanks to Peter Bleiberg]
