An odd boxy structure that is mostly open space stands at 1819-1823 Maryland Avenue on the block where Pen-Mar was known to have been at least for a short period in the 1920s, and is of similar size. That’s likely coincidental, however. Though often given as “Penmar”, the name as it appears in an old photograph shows a small gap between “PEN” and “MAR”, suggesting that the name may derive from ‘Pennsylvania’ and ‘Maryland’.
