H982+24 Trumansburg, New York

About 165 m south of Jct. w/ NY-89. Diner is officially on Kingtown Road, but closer to NY-89, about 35 m south of Mac Queens Beach (entrance to Frontenac Point Vineyard).

The remains of an ALCO RS-1 road switcher, possibly one of three scrapped in Morgantown, Maryland in early 2013 that were originally among 25 requisitioned by the Washington Terminal Company (Nos. 40-64), but this is not confirmed. The owner claims it’s one of the original thirteen commissioned by the U.S. Army in 1941 (numbers variable, made by five different makers), but this is also unconfirmed.

The original long front section has been greatly foreshortened, leaving only the nose attached directly to the cab. The repurposed cab has is named and badged after the long-defunct (since 1959) LeHigh Valley Black Diamond passenger train, which used to run through here. Diner has only two seats. This is not the only diner billed as the world’s smallest, but it’s certainly quite small. Specialises in Coney Island hot dogs. Run by Gerry Collins.

Update: Closed sometime in mid-2017. No further information.
