Originally Jiffy Way Lunch, and kept that name even through ownership changes up to 1976, though was better known to most people as “Long John’s” from 1943 on. Famous for franks and burgers.
There is a second location at 1760 NE Lombard Place in Portland (503-289-3557).
This Depression-era diner’s website includes a history of its maker. With lumber loaned by the Carlton Lumber Co. of northeast Portland, Roy Dowell constructed thirteen (13) 8’ X 20’ mobile diners in their yard, repaying the lumber upon sale at $1000-2000 each. Dowell diners went to Barlow, Hubbard, Dee Lake, and Tenino, Washington, though this is the only one known to still exist.
